I'm sure some of you have either read the book Paper Towns by John Green or seen the movie. In the book one of the main characters Margo, runs away to a paper town. When I was reading the book, I couldn't help but wonder, are paper towns real? What is a Paper Town? Back in the day map makers would put fakes towns, streets and bridges on their maps. If they ever saw these on another map they would know someone had robbed their copyright because those places didn't even exist. Therefore these little fake towns are all over, but not claimed.
One of the first paper towns was Agloe in New York. Agloe was eventually put on the maps when Algoe General Store was built in the 1950's. They took the name Agloe when they saw it on the map, not knowing it was technically a fake place. This made a paper town an actual claimed landmark. While with time the general store was left and eventually torn down the town still honors it even today. If you drive to Agloe, New York there is a green plaque right off the main road on a power line pole reading " Welcome to Agloe! Home of the Algoe General Store. Come Back Soon!" Being a fan of the book, and a fan of paper towns in general it was SO cool to go visit one. Not many people can say they have been to a paper town. I highly recommend you make the drive or even flight to explore the paper town of Agloe. Afterwards take the very short drive to the little town of Roscoe, New York, right outside Agloe. There you will find the world famous Roscoe Diner. This diner is so cool, with its retro old fashioned vibe. It makes the perfect place to grab a bite to eat. Happy Exploring!
